- August 1942 - January 1943. (8th Infantry Division history says July 1942.)
- Maj. Gen. William C. McMahon
- February 1943 - July 1944. (8th Infantry Division history says January 1943.)
- Maj. Gen. Donald A. Stroh
- July 1944 - December 1944. Gen. Stroh had formerly served as assistant commander
of the 9th Infantry Division.
Gen. Stroh left in November 1944 to return to the U.S. He later served as commander of
106th Infantry Division until
the end of the war in Europe.
- Maj. Gen. William G. Weaver
- December 1944 - February 1945. Gen. Weaver had formerly served as assistant commander of
the 90th Infantry Division. He was
evacuated in February 1945.
- Maj. Gen. Bryant E. Moore
- February 1945 - November 1945. Gen. Moore was formerly assistant commander of the
104th Infantry Division.
He later commanded the 88th
Infantry Division. Gen. Moore served as commander of IX Corps in Korea. He
was killed in Korea in February 1951 as a result of a helicopter crash.
